Using up the scraps!

A couple of grid cards, using up precious rests of cards, wine labels and patterned paper as well as stamped projects which didn't turn out as I wanted.

When I look at these I remember all the creativity that took place, which I enjoyed and still have the pleasure to bless others with a hand made card in the mail!

Circle Grid

I found some small punched out circles in my 'squares' box and once assembled they made a card. I love that when things just come together. No wasted paper, ink or effort!

Vintage grid

Nearly every year I have made a grid with a vintage photo on it and yesterday I made my third one.

just an assortment of projects that didn't materialize punched out into squares, so as not to waste paper and ink but also to make a different kind of card wherein each piece finds its value.

Here is a little trio of grid cards I made in this fashion, only the one in the middle is from my lovely friend Franziska which she sent to me.

Shades of pink, green and lavender

I just wanted to relax with some scraps this afternoon and where else to look than in my little drawers with squares.

This came together rather quickly and is quite satisfying.

Hope it will inspire you to give this a try - don't throw any scraps away, just punch out squares or circles and go decorate!

Get Sketchy challenge

My dear friend, Betty Keefe, directed my attention to a sketch challenge, which can be found here,  and this particular sort of sketch always motivates me to join in. So, I created something for the season with my Hero Arts stamps and a sentiment from Clearly Besotted which came free with some other stamps I ordered.

My card is made up of scraps and I always love putting them to good use. An inchie card in any shape of size helps you do just that!

Mixed size grid

Another design to add to the growing ways to make a grid card is to mix big with small squares, like this:
 

 The biggest square is in the middle. This has to be adhered after the four small squares have been fitted onto the card on each side otherwise it is difficult to get it in the middle.

 This pink one has been made in the same design as the blue one.

 This is where I keep all my punched out scraps so that they are ready to use and easy to find! 
In the top drawer I have butterflies, then the next three drawers have square inchies in three different sizes and the fifth drawer has banners and strips of patterned paper which I could use on any card or project that needs it, at any time.

Home Decor

It was a treat to find some very cheap frames which I liked at the local Aldi Supermarket. I couldn't believe it. So I got some to alter and decorate our house with.

These punched out butterflies are the colors of our Living Room. I also have a frame in white, which has the same color butterflies. I have hung them next to each other on the wall.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Scrap Card

Haven't been here in a month, so way time to update this blog. I have changed the title and added 'Scrap' cards. Fact is, I love creating with snippets of paper that I keep in my Paper trays.

The die-cut bird was paper pieced - the smallest pieces of paper that were big enough to line up to cover the bird were used. The flowers are from a Collage stamp from Hero Arts and I stamped six on the same paper strips that coordinated with the bird. I stamped some faux stitching in the corners as I thought it suited this style of card.

My latest Home Decor grid

I made this a while back. I love mixing and matching colors and patterns in paper style to form a big puzzle. I look at every piece and if my instinct says it shouldn't be there, I will replace it before I glue the pieces to my backing sheet. The size is A4 which is 11.5 x 8 inches.

I mixed greens with turquoise and brown together with neutrals.

Same stamp - different design

I have already shared these cards over on my other blog - the Craft Nest, so this is just a post to put them on the blog they really belong in.

This is a discovery which came about quite by accident. Look at the following two pictures.

The first one is a card project I made on a watercolor paper panel with distress inks (see 'One').
I didn't like it but as you know I never throw anything away, I put it to one side for a future grid project. Then I thought I could stamp over the top of it with this solid background stamp and get a different effect. So I inked it up with Old paper distress and stamped over the top but the result was not to be desired. I noticed I still  had ink on my stamp so stamped it again onto a regular piece of beige cardstock (see 'Two'). And what did I notice - I had picked up the ink from the watercolor paper panel  which gave me a nice effect. So instead of inking the paper, the paper inks your stamp!

This is a card I made using this technique and the above watercolor panel. I sprayed my stamp with water and let the paper ink my stamp up. Lovely to use all those small stamps that hardly get used, too. I think that this works best with a shadow stamp of some kind.
